Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is the League and where are games played? Back to Top

The FurryMUCK Cribbage League helps cribbage players meet together online and play cribbage. Points are awarded based on the outcome of these games. These points are used to determine member rankings. These games are played on FurryMUCK. To learn more about FurryMUCK, go to http://www.furry.org. To connect to FurryMUCK, use a mud client or point your telnet program at furry.com:8888. Trebuchet, written by Revar, is a cross-platform client highly recommended by the FMCL. It can be found by clicking here.

Q: When was the League started? Back to Top

The FurryMUCK cribbage league was started on July 6, 1996 by Data. It started off with only six members and has evolved into a successful league with more than 60 members and 4500 games played. The league was resurrected by Cerulean, Genevive and Garrison after it began to falter in 2001. The three still run it today, much as it was run from the beginning, with only a few minor changes.

Q: How do I join the League? Back to Top

The League welcomes any and all furries to join. As long as you have a character on FurryMUCK you can join the League. Returning guest characters are not allowed to join but are allowed to play for fun. If you would like to join the League, please register here on the Web site following the Register link. Your registration information is secure. You will then be added to the member list on FurryMUCK and are allowed to play official games. Send e-mail to cribbage@fmcl.org or contact Cerulean, Genevive or Garrison on FurryMUCK if you need further instructions or information.

Q: When do I play a game? Back to Top

You play a game any time you feel like it. Just ask anyone if they want to play a game, even nonmembers. Only games between two members of the League can be ranked, however.

Q: How do I summon/ask someone to play a game? Back to Top

The simplest way to do this is to look at the 'members' list and page someone on it. You may not always receive a response so just be patient. There are many members.

Q: Where do I play? Where are the boards? Back to Top

There are currently eight boards set up in the Cribbage Complex. To get to the Cribbage Complex, you can type "t crib" from most anywhere on FurryMUCK. You can also create a link or personal destination to it.

Q: What do I do after I finish playing a game? Back to Top

If you have just played a game between two League members that needs to be recorded, you can go to www.fmcl.org and follow the Record a Game link. You must have already registered at the web site as a League member to do this, so make sure to register first. You may also report a game played to Cerulean, Garrison or Genevive on FurryMUCK, but we stress this is NOT the preferred method. Only the winner of a game is able to report it to ensure no duplicate entries. Please e-mail cribbage@fmcl.org or contact Cerulean, Genevive or Garrison on FurryMUCK about mistakes in games reported via the League web site. If you have just played a game for fun or with a nonmember, you need do nothing afterwards except go your merry way--or play again. That would be even better.

Q: What constitutes an official game? Back to Top

An official game is one played between two League members in the Cribbage Complex on FurryMUCK to a winning score of 121 points. This means that 3-hand and 4-hand games, along with once-around games, are not considered official and cannot be submitted for consideration on the Web site.

Q: What type of ranking system is in use? Back to Top

Currently the ranking system is designed to take into consideration the number of points pegged in each game, the fact that games are played casually and members may not be willing or able to play every other member in the League and that skill and tournament play should be weighted more heavily than simply the number of games played. The system in place is similar to one used by Yahoo!™ Games, for those who are familiar with that service.

The ranking for anyone who has played less than 5 games is considered provisional. Anyone who has a provisional ranking is indicated in red on the rankings page, and is not eligible for any tournaments that do not admit provisional players.

Q: Who are the other League members? Back to Top

To see who they are, you may type "members #all" when you are in the Cribbage Complex on FurryMUCK. You may also go to the FMCL web site at www.fmcl.org and follow the Member Roster link.

Q: What happens if someone disconnects during a game? Back to Top

If it is an official game, try and find that person later to finish the game. Remember, a game cannot be scored unless it is played to 121 points. If you have to leave a game, use the "lock" command in the room you are in. This will lock the board so that no one else may erase your game in progress. If the game ultimately cannot be completed to 121 points, it becomes a voided game and will not be counted as official. Make sure to "unlock" the game when play resumes so that others may use the board once your game has ended.

Q: What if I need to finish a game at a later time? Back to Top

If you need to stop a game and resume at a later time, and your opponent does not object, you may use the "lock" and "unlock" utilities in the Cribbage Complex. You may use "lock [<Your message text>]" to lock the board so that no one else can reset the board. It will only be accessible to you, your opponent and Cribmaster while the game is locked. When the game resumes, use the "unlock" command to unlock the board so that when you are done, others are able to use it.

Q: Are there any tournaments? Back to Top

Tournaments will be held at least once per quarter. Tournaments may be held more often if there is enough interested and the quarterly scheduled tournaments are finished in adequate time. The maximum number to be held any one month period is one. The tournaments are held for fun and to improve personal playing ability. No entry fee is asked and prizes may or may not be awarded at the discretion of the tournament organizer or organizing committee. Any prizes, or lack thereof, will be indicated in the tournament report for each tournament individually before it begins.

Tournament games are official league games and are ranked with a higher priority than non-tournament play. Because of this, any league member who has played less than 5 games is considered provisional and may not participate in any league tournaments that do not admit provisional participants.

Q: What is the Tournament Game checkbox for? Back to Top

When you have completed a game in a tournament, you should check the Tournament Game checkbox on the Web site so that it will receive proper consideration when the game is submitted. Older versions of the cribbage MUF software used what is called Tournament Mode, which simply means the last card in each player's hand is played automatically to speed up play. Do not use the Tournament Game checkbox to indicate that a game was played in Tournament Mode if it is not, in fact, a tournament game. In later versions of the software, Tournament Mode has been replaced by Quick Mode to avoid confusion.

Q: How do I find out what's happening in the League? Back to Top

There are a few ways to do this. Occasionally, page #mail may be sent to League members about news of an urgent nature. You should also subscribe to the League mailing list by sending mail to fmcl-subscribe@lists.fmcl.org with "subscribe fmcl" in the message body. The list is used for League announcements and discourse with other members. You may also go to the FMCL web site at www.fmcl.org and follow the Bulletin Board link. The Bulletin Board may also be used to post interesting information and have discussions with other League Members and non-members alike.

Q: Who do I contact for more information? Back to Top

For any and all comments, questions, suggestions or concerns about the League, you may send mail to cribbage@fmcl.org. If you are on FurryMUCK, you may speak to Cerulean, Genevive, Garrison or Cribmaster at any time about League matters when they are online. You may also use the general FMCL mailing list to get information or chat with other League members. Sign up for, and get information about, the FMCL mailing lists at http://www.fmcl.org/lists.php.
